How to Track Sales Conversion Results From Individual YouTube Videos

I'm going to make this post pretty short. It's for all you YouTube marketers out there who would like a simple way to track sales resulting from specific YouTube videos.

A common method of sending traffic from a YouTube video to an offer page or other URL is to include the link to the page in the description below the video on YouTube.

Without a dedicated tracking system like ClickMagick, you're stuck with coming up with a manual system of creating unique links for each video and product.

If you have a small number of videos and products, maybe this is not a problem for you.

But if for example you promote many different affiliate products from different networks, this kind of manual system can quickly become difficult to manage.

Fortunately it's super easy to simplify your tracking by using ClickMagick sub-ids.

A sub-id is a unique alpha numeric identifier added to a tracking link. It's used to record a user defined variable such as for example a traffic source, a specific ad placement or link placement. Different affiliate networks and tracking platforms use abbreviations such as TID, SID, CID, or MID to refer to their particular flavor of sub-id. But they all do more or less the same thing.

In this case we'll use sub-ids as a way to identify a particular YouTube video as the source of a click.

So let's use a real world example.

As affiliate marketers ourselves, we're big believers in ClickMagick. We use it every minute of every day in our business.

We enthusiastically and genuinely promote it, because it is exactly the kind of high quality product we want to tell other marketers about.

We showcase it often on our YouTube channel. Any video in which we discuss ClickMagick always includes our affiliate link for this product in the description below the video.

Now we could simply use the same generic ClickMagick affiliate link in all of our video descriptions.

But if we did that, we would have no idea which specific videos were producing our sales.

And we definitely want to know that.

So we have two choices.

We could create a unique ClickMagick tracking link for each video. This will work, just fine but over time we'll end up with hundreds of different tracking links to keep track of. And since we would need to create these one at a time within ClickMagick, it would take a bit of time to set them all up.

So that's not the best choice.

A more elegant solution is to create a single tracking link within ClickMagick, then add a unique sub-id to the end of that link for use with each individual video. The unique sub-id is what will tell us that a particular click or sale came from a viewer of that specific video.

That's the path we've chosen and the one we recommend to you.

Here's how you do this...

Once you create your main tracking link within ClickMagick, you simply copy and paste it into your individual YouTube video descriptions, adding a unique sub-id to the end each time you do.

There's no need to create the sub-ids within the ClickMagick dashboard itself, just add one to the end of the link in each video description. ClickMagick will always recognize the main link and know that you've added sub-ids to each copy.

Let's say your primary ClickMagick affiliate tracking link looks like this:

https://clickmagick.com/go/yourafflink

Adding sub-ids to this link, your individual tracking links for 3 different videos might look like this:

Video 1 --> https://clickmagick.com/go/yourafflink/vid1

Video 2 --> https://clickmagick.com/go/yourafflink/vid2

Video 3 --> https://clickmagick.com/go/yourafflink/vid3

And so on...

Your sub-id naming system doesn't have to be anything super complex, just something that makes sense to you.

Using tracking links with sub-ids like this, you'll be able to identify all clicks and sales that stem from watchers of a specific video. Simply check your stats within the ClickMagick dashboard and look for the unique sub-id associated with that video in your sales reporting.
